Guideline/Consensus Statement

EJE publishes all Clinical Practice Guidelines that are commissioned and produced by the European Society of Endocrinology, either in collaboration with other Societies or independently, and are aimed at providing recommendations for patient care for specified conditions. The European Society of Endocrinology’s clinical guidelines are reviewed by our members and relevant interested parties (such as patient support groups) before publication.

EJE also welcomes the submission of guidelines in the field of endocrinology produced by other societies. Depending on the review procedures of the guideline, EJE may decide to accept the guideline as it is, without sending it for peer review.

Consensus statements are submitted by professional task forces, networks or society working groups, detailing an official view on a specific issue.

Guidelines and consensus statements present all relevant background information and the rationale behind any recommendations set out.

Guidelines should include a separate Title page with:

  • Title (maximum 85 characters)
  • All authors names (as they should appear in PubMed)
  • Author affiliations
  • Corresponding author’s postal and email address
  • A short title (maximum 46 characters, including spaces)
  • A minimum of four keywords describing the manuscript
  • Word count of the full article (maximum length 3500 words, excluding references, figure legends, abstract, significance statement and acknowledgments).

Although we do not impose a formal word count limit for this type of article, guideline panels are encouraged to write as ‘lean as possible’. We usually expect the guideline article to be within a range of 6,000 to 10,000 words. Exceptions and reasons for them can be discussed with the Editor-in-Chief prior to submission.
